“President Sarkisian’s official visit to France will become an occasion for emphasizing the exclusive friendship that exists between the two peoples and will give a fresh impetus to our cooperation,” Sarkozy said, as reported by his press office.
The two presidents reportedly had a dinner and discussed a number of issues, including conflicts in the South Caucasus and particularly the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
The two are also believed to have discussed Sarkozy’s upcoming visit to Armenia as part of his South Caucasus tour to take place at the beginning of October.
Sarkisian arrived in Paris on Tuesday on a three-day official visit after completing a working visit to the United States where he addressed the 66th session of the United Nations General Assembly on Friday and met with representatives of the local Armenian community.
Besides meetings with French officials, including Speaker of the French National Assembly Bernard Accoyer, Prime Minister Francois Fillon, Mayor of Paris Bertrand Delanoe, Sarkisian was also expected to hold meetings with local prominent Armenians.
In particular, on Wednesday evening Sarkisian was due to attend a concert by famous French-Armenian crooner Charles Aznavour in the Olympia Hall in Paris dedicated to the 20th anniversary of Armenia’s independence. All the proceeds from the concert sponsored by Sarkisian and Sarkozy are due to go to the Aznavour Pour l’Armenie charity.
On Thursday, a solemn reception for President Sarkisian is expected to be organized at the Paris mayor’s office during which the Armenian president will also meet with prominent representatives of the local Armenian community.
From Paris the Armenian president will leave for the Polish capital of Warsaw that will be hosting the Eastern Partnership Summit on September 29-30.
