“168 Zham” expects President Serzh Sarkisian to announce his choice of Armenia’s new prime minister on Thursday at a meeting with senior members of his Republican Party (HHK). “The HHK meeting is certainly a formality,” comments the paper. “The new prime minister’s name will be announced, rather than discussed, there. So the Republicans could have also been informed through the presidential press service. The name of the new prime minister will matter to at most several hundred persons.”

It will be totally irrelevant to ordinary Armenians, claims “168 Zham.” “In Armenia the society has ceased to have any influence on the government’s formation,” concludes the paper.

“Hraparak” reports on former Prime Minister Tigran Sarkisian’s attempt to talk to hundreds of people who demonstrated against the controversial pension reform in Yerevan on Wednesday. “It was strange to see him holding a megaphone and offering dialogue to the hostile crowd,” writes the paper. “But life is interesting with precisely this kind of surprises.”

Citing unnamed “reliable” sources, “Haykakan Zhamanak” reports that Karen Karapetian, a parliament deputy from the ruling HHK and a brother of Russian-Armenian billionaire Samvel Karapetian, has refused to replace Hovik Abrahamian speaker of Armenia’s parliament. “The same circles say that if Karen Karapetian stays adamant it is possible that Galust Sahakian, the HHK’s deputy chairman and the leader of its parliamentary faction, will be nominated for the post,” the paper says.
