The Russian police arrested on Monday an Armenian-born man who they said fired shots at the Turkish Embassy in Moscow.

Russian news agencies reported that Artur Mirzoyan, an ethnic Armenian businessman, was detained after allegedly opening fire with a hunting rifle shortly after 8:00 a.m. local time.

The gunfire reportedly struck an embassy sign depicting the Turkish coat of arms. Authorities said nobody was hurt in the incident.

According to the “Moskovsky Komsomolets” daily, Mirzoyan was caught and overpowered by Russian security officers guarding the embassy building after firing two gunshots. The motive for the shooting was not immediately clear.

There was also no word on whether Mirzoyan is an Armenian or Russian citizen.
