Russia’s President Vladimir Putin joined U.S. and European officials on Monday in urging Armenia’s government and opposition to resolve their bloody post-election standoff through a “dialogue.”

Two more close associates of former President Levon Ter-Petrosian were arrested on Monday as the Armenian authorities continued their unprecedented crackdown on the opposition resulting from last month’s disputed presidential election. A senior U.S. diplomat, meanwhile, warned them against jailing the opposition leader as well.

BAKU, Azerbaijan (AP) - Azerbaijani and ethnic Armenian forces exchanged more gunfire near the disputed region of Nagorno-Karabakh over the weekend, killing two civilians and at least two soldiers, officials in Baku said Monday.
