President Serzh Sarkisian has launched an unusually blistering attack on the Armenian customs, saying that corruption within its ranks is “thriving” and hampering the country’s economic development.

A prominent opposition figure arrested in the wake of Armenia’s disputed presidential election was released on Thursday night pending investigation into his involvement in anti-government demonstrations organized by former President Levon Ter-Petrosian.
